Iron Design has been fabricating and installing custom iron fencing across Albuquerque and the surrounding Bernalillo County area for years, with our own shop at 249 Muriel St SE, Ste D. Every fence we build is designed, welded, and installed by our own team. We do not subcontract the work out, so you are always dealing directly with the people who actually build your fence.
Whether you need a full wrought iron fence around a property in the South Valley, a security fence for a business near Nob Hill, or fence topper panels added to an existing wall in the Northeast Heights, we build fencing that is made for New Mexico’s climate. Iron holds up against our high desert sun, blowing dust, and big temperature swings without warping, rotting, or fading the way wood fencing does.
Iron Design is fully licensed, bonded, and insured to do fencing and metal fabrication work in New Mexico, so you can hire us knowing the job is covered from start to finish.
Why Albuquerque Homeowners Choose Iron Fencing
Albuquerque is tough on fencing. Wood dries out, cracks, and needs restaining within a few years thanks to our sun and low humidity. Iron does not have that problem, which is why you can still find decades old wrought iron fences standing strong around some of the city’s older neighborhoods.
It holds up in the high desert without warping or needing to be restained. It is treated as a real, permanent upgrade to a property’s value, not a temporary fix like chain link. Every fence we build is custom fabricated to your property’s exact layout and gate placement, not cut from a generic template. It needs very little upkeep, usually just an occasional rinse and touch up coat. And it gives you real security while still keeping sightlines open, which matters for a lot of ABQ neighborhoods with HOA rules.
Types of Iron Fencing We Install
Wrought iron fencing is hand formed and custom shaped, and it is the most durable and highest end option we offer. It works well for front yards, pool enclosures, and any property where you want the fence to look as good as it performs. In the Albuquerque area, installed wrought iron typically runs between $25 and $35 per linear foot, depending on height, panel design, and how many gates you need.
Chain link fencing is the budget friendly option. It goes up fast, needs almost no maintenance, and works great for side yards, dog runs, or rental properties. You can add privacy slats later if you want. Typical cost runs $10 to $35 per linear foot.
Wire fencing is the most affordable option we install. It suits garden enclosures, livestock areas, or backyard perimeters where function matters more than looks. Typical cost runs $3 to $5 per linear foot.

Fence Topper Panels: Add Height and Privacy Without Replacing Your Fence
If your fence or block wall is doing its job but just is not tall enough, fence topper panels are the easy fix. We attach custom iron panels to the top of your existing fence or wall to add height, without tearing anything out and starting over.
Homeowners around Albuquerque usually come to us for topper panels for a few reasons. Pool code compliance is a big one, since many New Mexico pool ordinances require a minimum fence height, and toppers can bring an existing wall up to code without a full rebuild. Privacy is another common reason, especially on tighter lots in the Northeast Heights or South Valley where two story neighbors can see right into a backyard. Pet owners often add toppers to stop dogs from jumping an existing block wall. And in newer subdivisions, HOAs often approve decorative iron toppers as an upgrade to plain cinder block.
Our Process
We start with a free on site quote, where we measure your property and talk through material options and gate placement. From there, your fence or topper panels are custom fabricated and welded at our Albuquerque shop. Installation is handled by our own crew, not a subcontractor. And once it is up, we walk the finished job with you to make sure everything meets your expectations before we call it done.
